Buffet Scarf
Daisy Mercerized
Crochet Cotton, size 20, in white and yellow was used to make this
piece.
Use a number 7 or
8 steel crochet hook.
This motif could
be repeated for a tablecloth, chair or vanity set if desired.
Each motif
measures about 2 ½inches square.
Abbreviations: Ch
(chain); st (stitch); sp (space); sl st (slip
stitch); lp (loop); rnd (round);
SC (single crochet); dc (double crochet); to make a cluster-retain last
lp of each st specified on hook, thread over and pull through all lps
at once-, tr (treble)-thread over twice, work off 2 lps at a time; dtr
(double treble)-thread over three times and work off 2 lps at a time;
tr tr (triple treble)-thread over 4 times, work off 2 lps at a time.
Motif -In
white, ch 7, sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd
1: Ch 6 (for a dc and a ch 3), dc in ring, * ch 3, dc in ring, repeat
from * around, making 8 sps in all, join last ch 3 to third st of
ch 6
first made.
Rnd 2: Make
large
petal thus: ch 8, 3 tr tr cluster over sp, ch 8, sl st in tr
below;
small petal: ch 4, 2 tr cluster over next sp, ch 4, sl st in next tr
below, repeat from * around, ending with small petal. join and
fasten
off.
Rnd 3: In
yellow, join to tip
of small petal with an sc, * ch 6, dc in tip of large petal, (ch
7, dc
in same place) twice, ch 6, SC in tip of small petal, repeat from *
around. join with sl st.
Rnd 4:
Ch 9, * dc in fourth ch of lp below, ch 9, dc in same st, ch 4, dc in
fourth ch of next lp below, ch 9, dc in same st, ch 6, dc
in sc, ch
6, repeat from * around and join.
Motifs are joined
(by a sl st) to each other bv corner lps of last rnd.
The
photo shows four motifs wide and you can make it joined by two scallops
only, also make any desired length. It could be made an extra
loop of
8 ch sts while working wider if you wish.
Fill-In Spaces -
In yellow, make fill in sps between motifs as follows: join to center
Sp, ch 4, 2 dtr cluster in Sp, * 3 dtr in center sp of next
motif,
repeat from * twice. Join and fasten securely.
After piece is
desired width and length, work two rnds around scarf.
Rnd
1: In white, join thread where motifs are joined, ch 7, * dc in next
Sp, ch 6, dc in fifth st of corner lp, ch 6, dc in same place, ch
6,
dc in third st of ch, ch 4, dc in fourth st of next ch, ch 6, dc
in
fifth st of next corner lp, ch 6, dc in same st, ch 6, dc in sp, ch 4,
dc where motifs are joined,
ch 4, repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: Work 4 SC
over each ch 4 and 6 SC over each ch 6 around.
Border
Medallion-Ch 7, sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd
1: Ch 7 (for a dc and a ch 4), dc in ring, * ch 4, dc in ring,
repeat
from * around making 8 sps in all, join last ch 4 to third st of
first
ch 7.
Rnd 2: Sl st to
center of ch, 2 s c over ch, * ch 8, 2 SC over center of next ch,
repeat from *1 around, join with Sl st.
Rnd 3: 9 SC and
a Sl st over each ch lp-this makes a scallop medallion.
The
three inside scallops of each border medallion are joined to the main
piece along each side and across ends as follows: On each of the two
outside scallops that are joined, make 4 sc, sl st in corresponding sp
on large piece, make 4 sc in same sp. The middle scallop is
joined by
a bar. Work 4 sc in center or middle scallop, ch 6, sl st over dc
where the joining of motifs appears -6 sc over ch 6 just made, make
remaining 4 sc over scallop.
Each
of the corner medallions is joined by two scallops only, also make
an extra loop of 8 ch sts while working last rnd.
